Re: Visit to Melbourne

I rode 3035 the length of Collins St this morning, and I don't think
this was my imagination, but it seemed a lot quieter than the other
ones I've ridden.
One thing for sure was that the ceiling panels didn't rattle as we
hit the numerous bad joints. That's usually a big part of the noise,
but it also seemed that the thud from the wheels over the joints was
more muffled. Does anyone know if the later trams have been modified
to cope with the bad track?
regards,
Mike Alexander

Sorry for the delay in replying, Brent; I must have overlookedyour
comment. The Citadis cars I rode on produced a loud, hollow soundon
street track particularly where it's mass concrete, in other wordsrailway
the vast majority of Melbourne's street track. On the stretch
between the bottom end of Bourke St down Spencer & under the
bridges to the Crown Casino/Convention Centre the noise was suchas
one would expect to hear from an elderly tram eking out its lastdays
of service.
