A message from Ron S. last
night...........
Speaking to the workers on site (s) we were told
the work was up to 10 hours behind acc broken water pipe.
I noticed the new overhead spans etc. had been
installed earlier above the old at the depot entrance and should not take long
to erect as only the trolley wire needed installing.
This job was (is) quite amazing and must have given
a few scheduling headaches for the contractors.
I recommend a visit to the site (s).
Years ago a task like this could well have spelt
the end for a tramway system.
Of course one can imagine the drama with concrete
still setting at the 11th hour and tower wagons trying to do their
thing.(s).
As far as candestien dragging of Z's in the middle
of the night, I am afraid I am a no smoker.

Subject: WHAT a day
Hi Graeme,
What a day we
had at Malvern today with the work on the new track work for the run-in-out. It
began well at 4:30 am when it looked like we had been struck by an earthquake
with all the concrete broken up into large pieces from Bang Rd - Coldblo Rd, out
into Glenferrie Rd in both directions. It seems now the Council hasnt given the
road over to us as it seems only one road instead of another 2 being placed down
Coldblo Rd & two tracks out. Find out more tomorrow as they connect the new
rails. but at 5:20 am they ripped open a mains water supply as seen on TV
tonight & could not shut it down till 10:25 am. The spout was beyond the
trolley wires & flooded the shops & the work at Wattletree &
Glenferrie Rds. My job was to transport the drivers to the storage trams in
Dande Rd, then the take crews at High & St Klida Rds. They work rather
quickly against the way the PTC did in such a job in the past. They said we can
run the storage trams back in late Sunday night ?? NOT unless they work on the
overhead as the tracks are nowhere near the old runout. Start at 7 am tomorrow
to do the same - Regards - Ron
