Maximun traction trucks

I seem to recall a shot in "Time of The trolley" by Middleton, of a
car I think on the Niagra Falls scenic line which had max traction
trucks both facing the same way.

Once in Wellington I saw a car with a defective axle being driven
back to the workshops with an idler axle bolted onto the front of the
large wheelset.
It was of even smaller diameter than the pony wheels.
Did not seem to present any sort of problem though.
