Thank you Don. I hadn't seen that shot before. The large building on the
right - the Evening Post building - is still standing but overshadowed by
many taller buildings now. The newspaper itself ceased publication about 3
months ago, after continuous publication since 1861. Much of its regular
content was absorbed by its morning stablemate, now called the 'Dominion
Post'.
Cheers,
Brent Efford

In my possession is a thin book of pictures entitled "VIEWS of WELLINGTON
The
Capital City of New Zealand." No date or publisher given, but the pictures
date
from the era of WW2. Many are panoramic and a few show trams.
This view looks south up Willis Street and includes five trams: Besides the
one
in the foreground, one is turning into Manners Street in the distance, with
another behind it. Beyond that corner are two more - the northbound one
looks
as if it might be a Fiducia.
Sign of changing times: the shop at far right (I forgot that the scanner
cuts
off a couple of millimetres at the edge of the glass) advertises "Siberian
Furs."
