Roseneath and Hataitai Trolley Buses.

Hi everyone

I really enjoyed seeing the photos of the different trolleys on
Roseneath and Pirie St routes. I started driving buses in 1958 being
based at Cable St Depot. I started at Kilbirnie but had trouble
driving crash box buses. I had no trouble with the trolleys at all.
My main route was on Roseneath-Wadestown. I also conducted for a very
short time on the Hataitai Trams. I am now a refurbished Bus Driver
and drive the newer type trolleys and Diesels. Last weekend I had a
drive of a couple of the older trolleys at Ian Littles museum in
Foxton. I was surprized at how heavy they are to steer and I used to
drive them. How times have changed. As an aside, I drove a Leyland
National bus in Wellington some years ago. It was on order for
Cambera which they were trying to sell to Wellington. The then
manager in Wellington MR Andrews "nicknamed Gravy Eyes" said that he
did not see why we should have to have power steering on our buses
after I had raved on about how good it was! I am pleased to see some
discussion of the Wellington transport scene.

Regards Evan
