Gentlemen,
On Saturday my 6yo daughter and I went shopping to the South Melbourne
Market. By chance we spotted SW6.983 shunting at Nicholson Street and after
a lively sprint boarded the tram at the LaTrobe St stop with plenty of time
to spare.
The car is spotless inside and out. The staff at Preston Workshops have done
a great job. My 6yo was suitably impressed with the ride and the sounds It
is good to hear the compressors thumping away again on Melbourne trams other
than the CC cars.
A young couple boarded at Swanston Street and (perhaps never travelling in a
W before) stated that the tram was diesel powered as 983's compressor
started thumping away! My 6yo soon put them right.
Anyway it was an excellent run down to the Market. Whilst there we spotted a
wedding party having their photographs taken on the tracks at the South
Melbourne station on the 96. How stupid is that! They moved off rather
reluctantly after I warned them to get off the track.
A case of "what the ???"
Steven
