The subject photo is 340k, a little larger than we usually see. But, as
someone
further down the thread will say, it's a beautiful photo. I don't see anything
wrong with it myself and there are no group rules specifically against it. At
the same time I kind of think we would prefer to not see all pix of this size.
On the other hand, I HATE to see a severely compressed image of, say, only 20
or 30k which absolutely spoils a fine photo like this one.

This is my first experiment in posting a picture to this group. My apologies
to any who find it too large.

While living in NZ in 1960-1962 I was tightly closeted as a railfan, and shot
only a few slides on the subject - a literal handful when it came to trams and
trolleybuses. Now at long last I have slide-scanning capabilities and am
poised to share these few.

I think the image both supports and requires the large format, and have done
all I could to cut down the file size. Here are some options. I can:

1. Post to the group's Files (problem is, pictures in Files seem to be
severely
compressed: compare some of WGB's pictures attached to messages with the same
pictures in Files.)

2. Post in a smaller format and offer the larger one privately to anybody who
might be interested.

3. Post to Usenet (ABPR and ABPV - actually, I'll probably be doing that
anyway.)

4. Post other pictures just as I have done this one. After all, there are only
a handful, with another handful shot in Australia.

5. Go away ;-)

Hi there,

First of all, welcome to TramsDownUnder. I concur with group ass't
moderator and fellow Seattlean Val Golding that it's a great image, and you
should leave it alone.

I myself normally post images which are 10" across (these fit most computer
screens). When scanning a slide, I have to stop down twice for manageable
internet size, but I keep the quality at the maximum.
