About the Melbourne 1945 photo-maps.
The 1945 photo-maps of Melbourne were produced by the Victorian Department of Lands and Survey from aerial photography taken by Adastra Airways in 1945. The aerial photographs were trimmed and joined to form a photo mosaic. Each photomap covers an area approximately 3km north-south by 5km east-west.

Our images of the photo-maps were produced by 300dpi scans from the photo-maps. The photomaps are mounted on linen, segmented into 10 panels, each covering a ground area approximately 1.5km north-south by 1km east-west. Each panel was scanned separately.

To save space and improve the speed with which images load, the images provided on this web site are 150dpi JPEG images of moderate quality. Better quality images (300dpi TIF images) are available from the Map Collection.
