When Malvern used to run William St trams, the evening peak trams (32,
Camberwell Junction) used to turn left into Riversdale Rd, shunt at
Glenferrie and then turn into Glenferrie to finish back at Malvern depot.

One female driver made an unschedualed turn into Camberwell depot on her
first trip on that route. She missed noticing the auto points at the depot
and went at quite a speed into the depot and took a couple of oncoming cars
with her.

Andrew.

Trams running into Camberwell Depot during my time there from 1974 to
1976 showed route 76 regardless of whether they were travelling via
Swan Street (Wattle Park route) or Bridge Road (Burwood route). There
was an interesting working in the morning peak that ran from Princes
Bridge to the Camberwell Junction crossover east of Burke Road
showing route 76. It then "ran in" after using the crossover. Crews
hated it and would try to get a short shunt at the Depot especially
if there were no passengers for the Junction.
I recall another run in the mornings that went to from Princes Bridge
to the Junction and then turned into Burke Road and did at least
one "round" on Camberwell. So it was possible to travel from Princes
Bridge to Camberwell terminus on the one car. But you would have had
to, officially, pay two fares: one when you got on and another after
the Camberwell Junction.
There was a similar situation at Kew when a couple of services ran
off Church Street (routes 78/79) into Victoria Street and continued
to North Balwyn. This gave Balwyn High School students living in
Richmond a "through" service! Wonder if there were other instances of
this sort of thing! Would be good to document them some time.
The cars running in from the Camberwell route showed 73 and used the
now removed curves from Burke Road into Riversdale Road.
