Burke Rd.,is named after Robert O'Hara Burke.Wills,Grey and King each
get a guernsey in Balwyn, they are all off Gordon St.parallel to Burke
Rd.For those who don't know, these were all leading members of an
expedition to cross Australia from Melbourne to the Gulf of
Carpentaria,King was the only one to return."Coopers Creek" by Alan
Moorhead [I think] tells the fascinating tale.Hows that for local
knowledge Andrew?Maybe this is what happens to those who venture
beyond the tram terminus!!Hands up those who have heard that Goon
Show epic "The Last London Tram",I"d certainly love to hear it
again.Peter Bruce.--- In TramsDownUnder@y..., "Swash" <swash@b...>

That reminds me of the ridiculous ticket machines which at the

St. Local knowledge please.

Some of the older cars used to show 'RACEC'SE'- I have a photo of an
F or F1 class 'dropcentre' displaying this - I don't think the full
word(s) RACE COURSE were ever used.
