Re the post on H class refurbishments and destinations...
What do the new destinations contain now apart from 'City &
Can I assume also 'Depot' and 'Special'?
Hello again,
Generally, the only destinations actually used now
are 'City/Glenelg', 'SPECIAL', and 'Express to Stop 14'.
There is now only one express, the 17:12 ex Victoria Square - this
has been the case for many years now.
At one time there were three expresses to Glenelg in the evening
peak, and at least one from Glenelg in the morning peak.
There could be an 'Express from Stop 14' sign, as I think one was
still running in the 70's when the reduced blinds were introduced.
There are also separate 'CITY' and 'GLENELG' signs, though these
rarely used.I
There was one 'motorperson' (this must be the official term now, as
heard it used over the radio system on car 376 this evening, on theend,
17:12 express!), who frequently had 'CITY' showing at the north
and 'GLENELG' at the south end, but I haven't seen him or thisTwo
display for some time.
I think there is also a 'Glengowrie Depot' sign (on two lines
slightly angled, as per the City/Glenelg sign), but this is rarely
used. There are no scheduled workings from the City to the depot -
they all proceed to Glenelg, and then return 'SPECIAL' to Depot.
early morning workings leave Glengowrie and proceed directly to the
City, but I imagine these would show 'City-Glenelg', or perhaps
just 'City'.
There is also a 'RACES' sign - I am pretty sure this is what it is -
that is certainly how it was shown on the original blinds.ceased,
Again, this gets little or no use, as the special Races trams
I would think about thirty years ago. The practice since then hasI
been to use coupled sets for normal sedrvice runs on Saturday race
days, although I noticed
quite recently, that single cars were in use on a Race Day. There
appears to be little extra patronage now to or from Morphettville
Race Course, despite the extra stop right outside the entrance.
Possibly the "RACES' sign could get some use on Adelaide Cup Day -
haven't been down for some years to have a look at whether specialan
workings are still used on that day.
Some of the older cars used to show 'RACEC'SE'- I have a photo of
F or F1 class 'dropcentre' displaying this - I don't think the fulltake
word(s) RACE COURSE were ever used.
I will try to get a friendly trammie to turn the handle for me &
my camera along, so that I can get a definitive version of justwhat
is on the rolls.______________________________________________________________________
(If anyone from AETM is reading this, I am sure someone from there
would know.)
Sorry this has got a bit long - hope it is of some interest.
