$25M RAIL LINK PLAN
The Northern Territory Government is considering building a $A25
million light rail link between Darwin and Palmerston. The rail would
connect the Palmerston passenger terminus for the Alice Springs to
Darwin railway to central Darwin and the cruise liner wharf. Transport
Minister Kon Vatskalis said little land acquisition would be involved,
because planners had foreseen the need for a 25km light rail when
building Tiger Brennan Drive between the two cities. A proposal will
go before Cabinet before the end of 2002.
