OK - let's go back a bit further.
Melbourne still has many substantial reminders of the
cable tram era. One of the most impressive is the
North Melbourne winding house.
This pic is not the usual angle, but has the advantage
of showing the base of the chimney stack still in
place.
All the signs on the building are on steel plate -
none of the brick-work is painted - presumably because
of the heritage value of the building.
How about some contributions from Ballarat and Bendigo
- say the magnificent centre poles still in the former
tram streets in Bendigo, with those wonderful
lampholder frames??
