I must confess that while I never masqueraded as an employee, when
the Bendigo cars were just the local tram service I used to go up,
stay overnight and put myself on a Birney. After several trips back
and forth between North Bendigo and Golden Square - usually without
seeing another passenger - the first stage would be the driver
saying "Don't bother to pay another fare, just keep that ticket".
Next stage was "Why are you staying on the tram this long?"

After a bit of jovial conversation the offer ...

"How would you like to have a drive?"

... Would I what!!!!

Those were the days.
