ALL PLEASE READ--Labor issues discussion on TramsDownUnder

Hi, gang!
First, please bear in mind that I'm using the American English spelling of
"Labor" here, as opposed to "Labour", used by the U.K. and its affiliated
countries. No offence, mates...
I've been following the issue of discussion of labor with respect to public
transport on this group. As a member of the Transport Workers Union
(AFL-CIO) in San Francisco, I am aware of many issues affecting
transportation workers throughout the long history of unions and transit
service. In general, I am supportive of most labor issues which we in
transit service have to deal with. However, there have been times where I
have disagreed with labor's approach to resolving workplace issues.
The discourse of labor issues on any discussion group is a difficult and
sometimes controversial topic. There are a lot of very passionate
viewpoints on both sides of the issue.
With regard to the Melbourne trammies' opposition to the new Combino trams,
I'd like to find out why the union is fighting these trams--especially if
there are safety issues involved.
Now that is said and done, I will allow continued discussion of some labor
issues on TramsDownUnder. However, if the discussion becomes very inflamed,
I will shut the discussion down.
