Museum tram operation was Pantographs__&&__Interior__Lighting - Museum trams

Hey, who owns the track? We do - the public, it is only leased to the
operators. If need be they can be told to operate these museum cars by a
higher authority. Besides it wouldn't be very difficult to licence
private owners to drive their own trams, all they need is to go through
the driver's course. Yes I know sounds easier than it is but it is not
impossible.

Two city circle Ws have been prepared for pantos to be fitted. They
are sitting in Camberwell depot still according to last reports.
I'll go past later on today if I have time to have a look to see if
they are still there.

The Box Hill extension will be pantos only, as is everything beyond
and including Kew depot.

Once the remaining W class trams are fitted with pantographs,
presumably the overhead will be progressively adapted by the removal
of frogs etc.

This raises the issue of whether any allowance will be made for the
on-going operation of museum/historic trams with trolley poles.

Already there are several sections of routes where trolley pole cars
can no longer operate ie

Route 96 beyond the Exhibition crossover going to East Brunswick
Route 96 beyond Port Junction going to St Kilda
Route 109 beyond Brunswick Street
Route 109 beyong Montague
Route 48 due to the upgrading of the overhead around Kew depot
Routes 11/112 due to the changes at the Brunswick Street interchange
Route 75 due to the Camberwell junction upgrade
Route 86 at the Bundoora end

Given that, from the private operators' point of view, musuem tram
operation is likely to be regarded as a nuisance, it appears to me
that there is a real prospect that eventually the operation of museum
cars (with the possible exception of pantograph cars) will just
become too hard.

Does anyone have knowledge of whether there are any plans to retain
trolley pole compatable routes?
