ALL PLEASE READ--TAN: Bouncing messages on Yahoogroups

Hi, gang!
Over the last month or so, there has been a considerable increase in many
members' messages from Yahoogroups being bounced back to Yahoo by the
various members' ISP. Primarily, this affects listmembers whose mail
settings are "Individual E-Mails" or "Daily Digest".
Many times, this happens because the member's E-mail inbox is full. This is
easy to correct--read your e-mail, move stuff to folders, delete messages,
download attachments to one's hard drive, etc.
However, a lot of this has to do with the recent destructive "W32.Klez.E"
virus. Yahoogroups has apparently been affected by this, which results in
certain ISPs rejecting mail from Yahoo until this problem is resolved.
In any case, the result is that bounced members no longer receive e-mail
from Yahoo until unbounced and restored to normal. Ahis has made for a lot
of work for listowners, including myself, to unbounce members. Sometimes a
member is unbounced only to get right back onto the bounce list.
Sometimes, it is not possible for me to unbounce a member, because of the
nature of the bounce message. Therefore, the member stays bounced until
Yahoo can send a probe out certifying that the member's account is OK, and
then Yahoo will restore the member to the regular roster.
Here is the policy I follow regarding bouncing members. The method I take
depends on the situation.
Below are some sample messages I receive regarding bouncing members:
In these cases, I may sometimes set the affected member to "No
Mail"--depending on whether this is a one-time occurrence or a repeat (the
member has long/frequent bounce history). Sometimes the ISP in question may
be down.
If the member unbounced returns to the bounced list, I will definitely
change the setting to "No Mail", and try to notify the member of the status.
It is up to the member to reset his/her own setting back to the way it was.

In cases such as this,, I will definitely set the member to "No Mail".
Again, it is up to the member to reset his/her own setting back to the way
it was. However, I will not send a message because I know it will be
bounced back to me.
In cases such as this, I have no choice but to remove the member from the
group.
Sincerely,
Milantram (Peter Ehrlich)
