Hi Mal,
I'm pretty sure that the truck beneath 444 is a Brill 21ESL (i.e., Swing Link) These trucks seem to have been first used in Lisbon with the 508 - 531 series cars (introduced in 1924), and a little later with the 552 - 571 series (introduced in 1931). This type of truck is not original for 444, but possibly there were none of the original trucks (Brill 21E narrow wing) spare when 444 was restored.
No 508 ended its regular service on a Maley & Taunton swing link truck, but on withdrawal was put back onto a Brill 21ESL, which it now retains as a Museum car. The attached photos from 1982 show 508 after withdrawal, with a close-up of one of the swing links. Also attached, "just for completeness" is a photo of 508 on an M&T swing link truck, in service with trailer 143, 10th Feb., 1980.Best wishes,Owen.
