Attached is photo of 662[W3]on the up turning from
Park St.into Heather St.in South Melbourne in 1968 at
about this time of the year, its showing Moreland which
means its running into Brunswick after the am peak. For
those unfamiliar with Melbourne if it was a service
car it would be showing East Coburg. At the top of the
hill behind 662 is a scrubber,either 10 or 11,waiting
for the lights at Clarendon St.To me this photo is
full of interest, the W3s disappeared from service soon
after this, the cars, that Austin pretend sportscar on
the left was always parked there, was it an A90??or am
I making this up.The building on the corner of Moray
St.at the left was the Druids Hotel[now The Water
Rat]in the Saloon Bar of which Pat Shannon,Secretary
of the notorious Ships Painters and Dockers Union was
knocked off one afternoon whilst having a quiet
beer. One of the blokes charged and convicted had been
a connie at Hanna St.Depot,I worked with him a couple
of times,a pretty harmless fella you would have
thought, who somehow got caught up with some really bad
bastards.I know that this is a bit off topic but I
thought people might be interested.PBruce.
