"A further $25 million will be spent in 2002 to renew and maintain the tram
infrastructure, with a further $6.6 million to be spent on track work for
the new low floor trams," said Mr McKenzie."

Does anyone know what works costing $6.6 million need to be done for the
Combinos to enter service? I assume the easing of some tight clearances.
Anyone know where?

All the Combino's will be going to Malvern depot, no other depot will
have them on their lines. Some of the new work will include putting
curves from Glenferie Rd into Malvern Rd so trams can turn right and
left off Genferie Rd into Malvern Rd. Other work, from the surveying
that has been taking place will be stretches of St Kilda Rd and the
remainder of Wattle tree Rd that was not done before. Hopefully
Balaclava junction gets done as a matter of urgency. The first of the
modifications to Malvern depot for the Combino's will start next week
with 4 to 5 roads being removed and replaced. All the W class trams
have to be removed from the depot for this to take place. At the
moment the union has a ban on them being moved.
