RE: Flinders Street flyover

Basically, the flyover is an eyesore in an area
directly opposite Crown Casino and thus in a major
tourist location.

The Melbourne Aquarium is just the other side of the
railway viaduct, still on the Northern side of the
river. They will be pleased to have one visual barier
out of the way.

Yes, Flinders St traffic will be delayed somewhat, but
probably not much given that there are traffic lights
at every other intersection in the street.

Next step in improving the area would be to demolish
the disused old railway bridge at the rear of Flinders
St.

(That should start a debate!)

An out of towner's question ... why is the flyover
to be removed? I presume
King St is to remain just as busy. Surely separating
the cross tram traffic
is a distinct advantage, particularly since the
Docklands line could add
even more trams to Flinders St. Will the flyover be
replaced by yet another
set of traffic signals to hold the trams up?
