Except, James in my native San Francisco, we knew
about British Columbia and the Yukon Territory because they were West Coast. And
you can tell a west coast accent whether they are Canadian or Yank.
San Francisco north was always referred to as the
Pacific Northwest.
But then I even knew where Oz was because there was
so much shipping between SF and Melbourne during the Gold Rushes of the 1850s.
So the historical tie was there.
And Yanks go West when they get fed up with where
they are. Being from San Francisco Oz was it Southwest. It only took Dick Nixon
to get re-elected for me to get on the big iron bird. Last straw.
