I was impressed by the Brisbane museum. The trams
were all beautifully restored. The explanations and
the descriptions provided by the tram operator were
also very good. I certainly hope that their plans to
extend the tracks to the rail station will come to
fruition some time in the future, providing additional
track for the trams to operate.

I think I must retort here...
Granted that the Brisbane Tramway Museum Society has
less to show of the
usual goodies that gunzels look for in a tramway
museum. However, it is
important to note that in the past 10 or so years,
the museum has had to
change its forward planning or stop development of
the Ferny Grove site on
about three occaisions due to light rail / tram
proposals for the CBD which
promised big things for the museum, either at the FG
site, or on the
proposed system itself.
This museum has suffered more than others from
broken promises by outside
parties and so the perception of a lack of progress
is actually very wrong.
A hell of a lot of work has been done by the Society
behind the scenes to
ensure it can go ahead with a vengence in the
future. As it seems many
people on this group have a size issue - focussing
on the length of the
track or the number of trams rather than the quality
of presentation - you
will be happy to know that the extension to Ferny
Grove Station is very
likely to happen.
The other thing that many gunzels have a problem
with is that they look and
don't touch. They whinge and bitch that things at
museum A are not as
progressed as at Museum B, but do they think they
can help out. Absolutely
NO. Remember guys - usually a small number of hard
working and
under-appreciated VOLUNTEERS run an operation like a
tram museum so that the
remainder of the tram enthusiast race can enjoy the
fruits of others labour
AND still criticise.
Unless you are prepared to help out with labour,
finances or other aid,
please refrain from criticising Ferny Grove or any
other museum. If it was
not for the efforts of the BTMS Volunteers, there
would be absolutely no
place to enjoy a Brisbane tram experience in
Queensland.
Said my bit, now am ducking for the trenches...
