It seems as though souvenir shop/visitor centre operation and the public
interface is a point of difficulty for most tram museums.
It is generally
not a function which attracts the most suitable volunteers, and a disaster
if left to the least suitable. Ideally it should be done as a commercial
operation with competent paid staff, but I doubt if any of the museums would
have the customer numbers to make that feasible (except maybe where the
tramway is part of a larger professional museum/theme park operation like
MOTAT, or where it is part of a municipally-supported operation like
Wellington's Cable Car Museum).
