Milano versus L class

Its always the same................
As soon as comparisons are made it's the W2's that go centre stage.
My opinion after riding the Milan car , was that it reminded me of
happier days when I was able to drive the L class 104 and 106 from
Essendon depot where I worked for 18 years.
There was none of the "hunting" that the W2's have built in..By that
I mean the way they get bound on curves and special work, and those
obscene vertical perambulations of the W2 !!!!
The ride was as good as a 77e truck and the sound was almost the same.
As a driver, you had not lived unless you had the oportunity to drive
an L class.
Watching and videoing Driver Greg indicated to me that the car was
very responsive , yes, perhaps a little underpowered, but as I recall
Milan is not greatly endowed with hills anyway.
I would be remiss if I did not compare it to the "Yappers" as well.
Here again both have strong family resemblances, for indeed the Y
family were Melbourne's "Peter Witts" as any one looking at 469 etc
can plainly see.
Back in 1974 when I started with the MMTB and learned to drive trams
and was PAID to drive the Yappers at the driving school, I thought
that I had died and gone to heaven!!!!!
