The cars from around 506 onwards had resilient wheels (in fact brisbane had the first car with reslient wheels in service in Australia (car 497 in 1949), double helical gears and sound proofing, in fact, the noisiest part was the pole which, because the base was attached virtually straight to the roof ,all hangers, frogs, were heard through the roof. The trucks were a Brisbane built version of the Melbourne #15, with minor variations.

They are very homely looking cars to me.

They have small windows and narrow entrances.

The truck looks like a Melbourne truck from what I can see.

I've seen pics of them before Greg. But their appearance hasn't grown on me.

I'm talking about aesthetics.

You mentioned they were quiet, Greg.

But I saw a lot of track set in mass concrete still visible in the street when I was in Brisbane in 1970. How could they have been quiet? Did they have resilient wheels or a lot of soundproofing in the floor?

I've got to admit that the pic of the Sydney car posted in reply to the Phoenix car looked great to me.

Now Bob you should know better than to through out a challange like that!

Have you every ridden a Phoenix in service or even at SPER, I can assure you, they were beautifull iside and were at least as quite, as quick and certainly as comfortable as a PCC! Unlike that NZ thing with minimum traction trucks!

Looks like the front end off a wedge splitter to me and those tiny windows would make it like a submarine inside.
