Box Hill extension

I had a look at the work this afternoon.
Both tracks have been laid east from Barloa Road to
Victoria Crescent. It is aInteresting Barloa Road is
the western border of the City of Whitehorse.
The down track was being concreted while I was there
(around 1515) but the up track had yet to be done. The
down track was complete to Marlborough Street.
There was quite a bit of interest among the local
residents. Apparently the connection from the current
terminus at Union Road is the last part of the
project.
It would be wonderful to see some traditional cars run
to Box Hill (for the opening ceremony?) but I expect
the modifications to the overhead wires in recent
times would render that not possible. Would that make
Box Hill the first part of the Melbourne tram system
not to have traditional trams run on it? Have there
been tours in "old" trams to the Docklands extensions?
