Thank you, Chris. very interesting - same day coverage!

It appears from the photos that Whitehorse Rd is closed during the weekend
for construction - presumably construction is stopped, or is confined to
off-road activity, during the week. It looks as though the organisation is
similar to that used for renewals these days (except that there is no old
track to remove), ie. close the road, dig the trench, consolidate the base
course, place, level, align and weld the rails, place the concrete and have
the road open again after 36 hours of continuous activity. Were there any
variations to that pattern?

Further photos showing the placing of the rubber boot, the concrete, and the
grass surfaced section (is that what the concrete sleepers are for?) would
be very welcome!
