I'll jump into this a little bit. Somewhere I remember seeing in the
Yarra Trams' "charter" that they were required to continue to operate
Route 11 and Route 12. Of course without the Ws there aren't enough
cars to operate separate routes so the 112 was born. In the back of
someone's mind I think they probably used 112 so they could say the
11(2) and the (1)12 were still being operated. Just a lot of legalese
gobbbledegook.
