I think Drummond lived in Essendon. There are no RC
Drummonds listed there or anywhere else in the state that I could find on a
quick internet search. But if I was him, I would keep my telephone number
unlisted.
Quite right, he wouldn't drink in a Public Bar,
Peter. Drummond liked to keep as many layers of subordinates between him and his
victims as possible. It was good for decorum. Drummond was a timetable clerk. He
had no traffic background to the best of my knowledge. I'd reckon he was a Mason
as well, and you know how they like to keep the riff raff under control,
especially the Catholic ones. Risson was General Officer class, Drummond would
have been Field Grade.
It would be interesting to get a bit of background
on Risson which is perhaps, where Drummond developed his exaggerated sense of
propriety.
Annoying thing is that every time I thumped my way
through his subordinates (all of whom hated him) to meet him over some issue, he
was very good to deal with. Decisive, always able to analyse convincingly the
situation and explain why changes had been made to timetables, etc etc. And when
he gave me undertakings that he would do something on a couple of occasions, he
did it. No problem. I fronted him several times on union deputations over
timetable adjustments, etc.
His Assistant Traffic Managers and I got on very
well (heheheheheheheh), most notably Doug Lamb who succeeded Drummond. He
treated them like subordinate Nazis as well and they hated it but didn't have
the balls to buck it.

time, probably well into the '70s,I suspect he was a Mason and I
wouldn't mind betting that he liked a beer,it would be in the Saloon
bar though,he wouldn't be a Public Bar patron.I think he was a
resident of the northern suburbs.Risson was officer class, maybe
Melbourne Club,Drummond a Warrant Officer maybe but not a Traffic
Officer,he would have come up through the admin.ranks.A lot of this
is guesswork, there must be someone better informed than me.I do find
history at this level fascinating.Regards all,Peter Bruce.--- In
