I was told Italian heavy goods vehicles had RHD mandated because it made their drivers more reticent to overtake (pass). That sounds a bit far fetched but possible. As for those cars you mention, a lot of them were race bred and perhaps had been influenced by the English in competition. That's just conjecture, but...I'd sure like to know the real reason.

I've driven RHD vehicles in LHD countries and vice versa and it's no fun hurtling down country lanes in Norfolk or Normandy with bits of hedgerow whacking you in the face because your window is down on a hot day and you're on the nearside of your car. And of course, being close to the side of the road impairs your visibility and decreases the amount of time you have to react to any danger. It's also a bear making U-turns.

For some unfathomable reason many Italian and French luxury makes had right hand srive.  Examples were Bugatti, Delahaye, Delage, prewar Alfas, Hispano-Suiza and Maserati.

While I was in Italy I noticed that cars were aprked evrywhere there was a No Parking sign.  Someone explained to me that if it were impossible to park there they would not have put up the sign.
