-Jeez Murph,you've upstaged everyone,the worst I ever did was bust a span wire,never got derailed either,split the points a couple of times but stopped before we got off the road.On a W car it wouldn't matter if the out of use pole made contact with the roof,it would have to make contact with the route number box to achieve the"Murphy Effect".Talking about mishaps,has anyone got any further info about the derailment at Buckley St.a couple of weeks back,I wonder what penalty the driver copped.The Grand Prix special services are pretty impressive just in volume and frequency not to mention loading.Hope someone can post some pictures in the next week or two.I have been working the whole time so not able to myself.Regards all,Peter Bruce.-- In TramsDownUnder@y..., "IS Edit" <bobmurphy2@c...> wrote:

It did have that wooden rail (with the gaps on the underside to allow it to follow the curved shape of the roof, Peter.

But the pole sagged aft of the hook and aft of the wooden rail, hence the fireworks. It was spectacular with little molten bits of copper flying everywhere and a long line of smoke where the copper had been.

Was it an 1100? The 1100s received a piece of wood attached
to the roof grabs at the rear to prevent this sometime in the '70s
(I think). This was after several incidents where motorpersons
raised the front pole first and then pulled the back pole (which
was hot), contacting the aforesaid grab irons. I don't remember
that the 1016s had the roof grabs . . .
