Back in January 1995 I had the pleasure along with two other gentlemen to under go driver training at Hawthorn depot on two motor and four motor tram's for the T.M.S.V. This was in no way as extensive as the Melbourne tram driver's undergo ,but was carried out properly none the less, the course only lasted  a week and apart from the theory it was as much on road experience as could be gained. This was done in between the finish of the morning peak hour and the start of the afternoon peak .The tram's used were SW 6 890 which has been altered to become a training tram by removing the end bulk heads at the driver's cabin's ,as well as sign's to inform people that it was a training tram ,as well as X 2 676.This was an enjoyable week as well as a very interesting one as well as giving one an insight to tram driving . Trucker Graeme.
