I'm fascinated (seriously).

Please keep up the photos and words on that system, Graeme.

I take it they used trolley buses because they already had overhead and electrical skills and knew how to operate both so it was no big thing for them.

The City was a very proud one.
The public transport system was unique.
They must have spend heaps of ratepayers money on not keeping up with
the Jones', but by being the Jones' first.
They were the first provincial City to set up a tramway system and
were the smallest municipal operator to introduce trolley buses.
The bus fleet was very cosmipolitan , NP used to put "Tag On" orders
for new buses onto other city's orders..
There were three batches of AECs ordered for Christchurch, in each
case NP bought 2 or three the same.
Auckland ordered Merc 0305's....NP bought 3.
Wellington a batch of NZMB Reliances....NP 2
The NZ Citybus MAN 2  Stadtbuses was another where NP Got new
vehicles quickly and top of the range.
Wanganui Tramways got Wellington Tramways to build a wartime ford V8,
and Yes, NP got one too.
Their fleet was always imaculate right up to the end when a private
company called Goldstar moved in.
The buses of NP were finished within six months !!!!
