Is there any move to extend the East Burwood tram to Knox City? I
think that would be wonderfully viable as Knox City is a huge
passenger generator.

Lots of talk at the moment, and the talk has reduced the tram line
from going to Knox City to South Vermont. Usual effort with tram
extensions, every 20 years extend your longest tram line two blocks.
The last major extension was from East Preston to Bundoora in the
80s. Very sad.

I thought the last extension was Middleborough Rd to Blackburn Rd for
Rte 75 which was part of the bicentenary funds or something (early
90's by the time it was done).

The current line from Station St (Burwood) to Blackburn Rd only
duplicates the bus service at the moment. From what I can see, more
people use the bus (when its running <g!>) as its actually quicker
than the tram.

I read somewhere once that the extension to Vermont Sth shopping
centre was the "first stage" of an extension to Knox City.

cheers
Johann
