The one that got away

Bendigo Birney 27 managed to get itself scrapped
and sold before the system closed.
When the Adelaide museum wanted to claim their
promised Birney upon closure, an interesting situation developed whereby Bendigo
would not part with ANY of the reamining fleet.
The South Australians even launched a famous HiJack
attempt in order to get to their promised car.
This attempt was thwarted.
The problem was resolved by getting 27 back and
getting it running again, then sending it off to St Kilda.
So everybody was happy in the end and a birney
returned from the dead.
The car became STA 303 seen here at the
termius of the St Kilda line.
