Toolern Vale....beware the trolley, they bite

Almost hanging yourself on the rope...............!!!!

My scary experience was taking a run on a trolley from the Northern
terminus down that mind boggling grade.
You may recall that Richard (ever cautious) wired up the trolleys
with a compressor switch mounted on the pole base.
The reason for this was that after swinging the pole if the air was
low the compressor would cut in causing an arc as you put the pole up.
He figured this would damage the overhead.
So standing orders required that you switched OFF when turning the
pole.
It was considered a good idea if you turned it back on again ASAP
before departing on your trip.
Yes, I forgot to do that and set of down the hill rapidly coming to
the realisation that things were not all as they should be as I could
not bring the flying jugernaut under control.
I was lucky that the car ahead was some distance away as I remembered
the switch and waited for what seemed several minutes for the air to
build up again.
It did of course, and a much subdued WGB rolled into the yards
without mentioning a thing.
I wonder if today the local rabbits are sleeping on some torn out
hair and maybe a set of undies !!!
I will let you know the exact date of last trip,
Paul Dickison took some video as well including a diesel trip and
battery trolley on the UNWIRED branch with Jim Baynes.
