The dog boxes were certainly gone when I arrived in '75.

Hi Pete,
Just to clarify, the last "Doggy" ran in 1971 and they had EE pantos
GregG'day Peter and all TDUs,Glad you like the shot,I
took it in the early 70s,Albert Park was my local
station but I didn't use the train much being a
trammie and living right next to a tram stop. The
rolling stock dated from steam days and was converted
from about 1918 on,there were also purpose built
electric cars known as "Tait" cars. The cars in this
photo had full width compartments with outward
swinging doors,cars 1 and 6 are "M" cars,powered with
a driving position,2 and 3 are unpowered trailers"T"
cars, and 4 and 5 are "D" cars,unpowered but with a
drivers position. The driving cars also have the raised
section for an elevated Guards[Conductors] seat and a
bench seat for privileged passengers. These cars lasted
til' the late 70s at a guess.I think they had spur
geared GE motors and MetroVick pantos but I stand to
be corrected on this. There are at least 2 cars
preserved and runnable.I will post the trailing shot
at the same location to the photo section,South
Melbourne station is visible just through the third
arched overbridge.Regards to all,Peter Bruce.
