-Graeme,I remember that day well,South Melbourne was my old depot and
it was the first time I had been there since I left in 1976,up the
stairs and into the messroom,not much had changed,except the cast and
the uniforms,when I worked there we were still wearing navy blue.I
rode the Birney up Kingsway into the City,the driver was
nervous,understandable since he was nearly flung off his seat before
he got into full parallel,those things hunted from side to side,and
hard,the other single truckers,S and T class I think,gave a beautiful
ride by comparison.It was a terrific weekend,I think the motto
was"Service Now".Re the SW2s,as I recall,probably from my short time
at Camberwell,at least some of them had the dreaded RC1 controllers
[Coffee Grinders],destroyers of drivers left elbows,for those who
never drove them as you notched up 9 times out of 10 you bashed your
left elbow into the drivers door surround[at about transition]am I
right Paul Nicholson?Paul,you must remember Mick Duncan,ex Camberwell
and Malvern,he was physically incapable of starting work before
Midday and even that was risky.He nearly always made it for last car

This is a scene that can never be repeated and once took place atSouth Melbourne Tram depot on a Sunday the occasion was the open day
when railway depots as well as tram and government bus depots were
