Bourke Street Winter 1970

G'day all,have posted another photo to the photo section,it was taken
from high up on the steps of Parliament House on a mid-morning in
winter 1970 looking straight down Bourke St.There 10 cars in sight
[easier to spot on the original print],this is the off peak service
on only two routes,96 and 88.It recalls the old cable tram
slogan"always a tram in sight".I don't think that it would possible
to get the same shot now,there are fully grown trees in the block in
the foreground which I think would block out most of the view.In the
distance the West Gate Bridge is under construction.Car 1016 is on
Preston run 54.In those days Bourke St. was very much the retail of
the whole of Melbourne and its suburbs,we live in a very different
city but at least we still have our trams.Hope you like the shot,its
