Sorry Bill, but as a resident here

Which means you probably don't see what is shown to non-residents in
the form of explicitly promoting tourism for Victoria.

Wrong, we see all the TV ads, brochures promoting every piece of Victoria
and so on too. Plus you can pay $6 to see a long promotional video in the
Rialto too. Including many trams.

Unfortunately Bill, however much you argue, although people would rather
travel in an air conditioned B on a stnking hot summer day, there is a high
'brand recognition' of the W class being the 'Melbourne Tram'.

It may be high within Melbourne, but is has declined significantly
elsewhere.

Other posts seem to disagree with you.

And if you were to get rid of them in favour of modern cars, the people
of Melbourne would kick up a stink.

You seemed to have failed to notice that they have effectively "got
rid of them". I visit Melbourne frequently on business and I don't
see any evidence at all of a stink about it.

Actually, there was talk a few years ago about Jeff wanting to get rid of W
class trams and there was a stink at the time hence my reference to the
newspaper article.
And they are reappearing on the roads as we speak, the City Circle has had
Ws back for some time now. From what I hear, normal service trams are having
brake mods done now and should be slowly coming back shortly.

And I wouldn't mind if you were a bit less rude and arrogant in your posts
(especially given the FAQ states no personal attacks), others opinions are
as valid as yours. Especially as you have alluded to seeing reports and
surveys and whatnot without actually providing any detail about where to
find them. If you wish to quote your 'facts', and deride others for not
having any sort of 'official facts' to back up their arguments, back your
statements up with references that others can pursue. Otherwise, they are
still merely your opinions and it is hypocritical to state otherwise. And
your opinions are no less and no more valid than anyone elses.
