TAN: Over voltages (was Re: Melbourne Historic Fleet - thoughts)

I'd bet that the motors fried were the MG set, the controller
blower, etc. Traction motors can take a lot of abuse.
I vaguely remember reading that, when the Southern Region of
Brirish Rail increased the third rail voltage from 600 to 750, the
main thing they had to do was rewire or replace the light bulbs
(where would one get 150 v light bulbs?) in the EMUs. (I'd bet
that they had to rewire the compressors, too.) Does anyone
have any better info on this?
