-First of all,why the tram?385 is the locker car,7,8&9 roads are out of use on this Sunday,probably full of W2s which almost never ran on the Lords day,obviously the Lord had no say in the matter.For the benefit of our distant friends let me explain what a locker car was.The running shed at South Melbourne was of 9 roads in 3 groups,1 to 3,4 to 6 and 7 to 9,after last car ran in a car would be parked at the neck of each of these groups,secured with the handbrake and the switches knocked out,it would then be handcuffed,i.e a U shaped jigger would be passed around the hand brake spindle and a h/brake wheel spoke and padlocked, thus the whole depot was secured.In the morning the AM standby driver [me when I could wangle it] would unlock the cars and pump them up.Ah yes the bus,can't remember which depot supplied buses for East Malvern via Chapel St. but they took their meal at South.How do you like them apples WGB?Regards to all.Peter B.-- In TramsDownUnder@y..., "Graeme Bennett" <wgbtttco@d...> wrote:
