I also didnt remember so many at Essendon but looked up the 1954 entry
in case I mis-read but it says :- 13 sw6 electric trams completed for
Essendon. Maybe they decided to make Essendon a 'then' modern depot
with one type of tram & other depots complained. I find the following
sw6 trams were at Essendon 858 859 871 886 906 907 908 909 910 911 912
916 927 935 948 957 968 969 the other depot was Brunswick. Ron
