Further to the question of trams in Brisbane, I have received a
letter from my local member who also passed on a response that he
received from the Minister for Transport. It is intended that a
draft South East Queensland Regional Plan will be released in
December 2008 which will address questions of transport and allow
for
people to provide their views. There is also another
plan, Connecting SEQ2031: Integrated Regional Transport Plan for
South East Queensland which will examine a range of options for the
regional transport system for the next 25 years.  This will be
released in mid 2009 for community consultation.  If I see anything
about these plans then I will advise this group, and ask that others do
the same.

The letter from the Transport Minister also confirmed that light rail is
the state government's preference for the Gold Coast Rapid Transit
system along the Gold Coast corridor.
