Re: The Electric Railway Journal- ref Melbourne.

Hi all,

I have a question ----- or perhaps a series of questions related to he first
question.

Who are the trammies employed by?

If they are employed by Yarra Trams (for example), and YT does not tender
for the continuing franchise to operate the trams, do the trammies get
redundancy payments?

Assuming that a new company (let's call it City Travel - CT) is awarded he
right to operate the trams, and the former YT people now belong to the new
company CT, are they employed on a totally new contract?

Do the conditions of the former contract extend over to the new company?

Would it not be easier to have the Vic Government employ the people so that
the operating company leases the employees, but when the company either
loses the franchise, or gives it up by not applying for a new contract, then
a whole new redundancy scheme does not have to be set up?

Mind you, perhaps it might be better to have the Government run the
transport of Melbourne anyway?
