Fitzroy depot a tour in VR car 52 was organized and toured parts of
the system including North Fitzroy at this point our driver thought
it would be an excellent opportunity to get photo's of our tram with
the new Z trams in the depot and ran into the depot. At this time the
office at the front of the depot was manned by an inspector who
promptly stooped our tram, ticked of our driver for entering without
permission and restricted us to the tram section of the depot for a
few photo's before we went on our way. Those were the days , Trucker

Hi all,

As the driver of that tour, would like tocorrect something on that,
was not actually dumped on then by the Inspector, from memory it was
Fred Manning whom I knew and was just having a little look, the
dumping came from my home depot at Essendon, from memeory, the car
was to be left at Sth and another brought back so that 52 could go on
the grinder the next day, someone got their knickers in a knot and
when the "Starter" was put in his place, then proceeded to claim I
had come through the depot points to fast(not true), can't get you
one way, they get you another. That was agreat tour though, sadly,
the week after, a window fell out of the car and much corrosion was
found and it was removed from service never to run again, she is at
Bylands quietly corroding away from brown cancer. Shame, a beatuful
and extremely historic car.
