Sydney Rd track re-construction
  Mal Rowe

The tram tracks in Sydney Rd from Bell St for about 500m North were
reconstructed over the weekend.

Here's a view of the concrete pouring stage.

(The workers were having a smoko)

You can see the concrete vibrator that sits across the tracks and, in
the background, you can see the other track on concrete blocks waiting
for concrete to be poured. The track is held to gauge with threaded rod
tie-bars.

The wooden spacers maintain track centres and will be removed after the
concrete between the rails has set and before the concrete in the centre
is poured.

A feature of all modern track laying is the provision of generously
sized conduits down the centre of the track for comms, control and power
cabling.
