I've heard about those roads in Tassie. I was told it was because the
engineers who built them were previously employed by the railways, so they
built their roads the same way as they built their track.

Could be, but if so, those engineers came from a narrow gauge system as
the curves are tight and narrow. Someone else suggested the roads were
designed by a slim young woman as the curves are tight and narrow. I
couldn't possibly give an opinion on that one either way!!
