G'day all, three from Jeff, 1808 in Melbourne. 1808, W1 431, S 164 and H.T.T. 8 all facing east in Latrobe Street in March 2002, Moomba parade Jeff?

The other two in October 2003. Inbound on Waverly Road, East Malvern just west of Burke Road and inbound on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, just west of Brunswick Street. The little cupola right above 1808 is part of the now delicensed but once notorious Champion Hotel. The tram is passing Glass Terrace, a very early row of houses. If St. Vincent's Hospital had had their way they would have razed it and probably most of this very interesting block. Melbourne is not an old city and we are fortunate that a great deal of Victorian Melbourne is still standing. There are some sad exceptions though.

I think I might have mentioned before " Melbourne Architecture" by Philip Goad and published The Watermark Press. It is a useful reference covering all periods from first settlement. I use it almost as much as my Melway.

Regards,

Peter Bruce.
